THE TEACHING

The cross stands at the center of the Gospel. Jesus’ death was not an accident that interrupted His mission. He gave Himself willingly for sinners, bearing the judgment our sin deserves and demonstrating the love of God. At the cross, God is both just and the justifier of those who trust in Jesus. Forgiveness is costly, and it is given by grace.

The cross also reconciles. Our sin separated us from God and damaged our relationships with others. Through Christ, God makes peace and entrusts the message of reconciliation to His people. The cross destroys boasting because salvation is not earned. It also calls us to forgive, pursue peace, and refuse the patterns of hatred and vengeance.

On the third day Jesus rose bodily from the dead. The resurrection is God’s vindication of His Son and the beginning of new creation. It means death does not have the final word, and Christian hope is not merely that our souls will escape the world. God will raise the dead and renew creation. The risen Christ is the firstfruits of that future.

Paul summarizes the Gospel as the message he received and passed on: Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day, and appeared to witnesses. This is the message by which believers stand. We receive it, hold fast to it, and proclaim it.

CANA RESPONSE

Place your confidence in Christ’s finished work. Let resurrection hope shape how you face grief, temptation, suffering, and service.

REFLECT

  1. What does the cross reveal about God’s justice and love?
  2. Why is the bodily resurrection essential to Christian hope?
  3. How can reconciliation become visible in one of your relationships?

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for our sins and rising in victory. Keep me rooted in the Gospel. Make me a witness of Your forgiveness, reconciliation, and living hope. Amen.
