THE TEACHING
The Church is not a human organization that happens to discuss spiritual things. It is the people Jesus purchased and gathers by the Holy Spirit. Scripture describes the Church as Christ’s body, God’s household, a holy temple, and a people called to proclaim His praises. These images show both belonging and purpose.
At Pentecost, those who receive the Gospel are added to a community devoted to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. Christian faith is personal, but it is not isolated. We need the Word, worship, fellowship, correction, encouragement, and shared service of other believers. In the Church, people from different backgrounds become one in Christ without losing their distinct gifts and callings.
The Spirit distributes gifts throughout the body. No member can say, “I do not need you,” and no member should be treated as disposable. Leaders equip the saints; they do not replace them. The whole body grows as each part works properly in love.
The Church’s unity does not mean uniformity or the absence of disagreement. It means a shared allegiance to Jesus, a commitment to truth, and a willingness to bear with one another in love. The Church must pursue holiness and reconciliation because it is a dwelling place of God by the Spirit. Our life together should make the presence and character of Christ visible.
