Jesus Christ: The Purpose Revealed

John 1:1–18; Mark 1:14–15; Luke 4:16–21; Colossians 1:15–20; Hebrews 1:1–4

Jesus is the Son of God, the promised Messiah, and the clearest revelation of the Father; in Him God’s kingdom draws near and God’s purpose is revealed.

THE TEACHING

God’s purpose is not finally revealed through an idea but through a person. Jesus Christ is the Word who was with God and was God, who became flesh and dwelt among us. In Jesus we see the character of the Father: holiness without cruelty, compassion without compromise, authority joined to service, and truth joined to grace.

Jesus begins His public ministry by announcing that the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God has drawn near. His teaching, healings, deliverance, welcome of sinners, and confrontation of hypocrisy all testify to God’s reign. In Nazareth, He reads the promise of good news to the poor, release to captives, sight to the blind, and freedom for the oppressed, then declares that Scripture is fulfilled in Him.

Jesus is more than an example or teacher. He is the image of the invisible God and the agent of creation. He has authority to forgive sins and calls people to repent and believe. His miracles are signs of the kingdom, but His mission reaches its decisive hour at the cross. He comes to give His life as a ransom and to seek and save the lost.

To know Christian faith is to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. We do not add Him to a life whose direction remains our own. We receive His rule, learn His way, and depend on His grace. The Church exists to make Him known, not to draw attention to itself.

CANA RESPONSE

Read one Gospel account with attention to what Jesus says, does, and reveals about the Father. Respond to Him with trust, worship, and obedience.

REFLECT

  1. What does Jesus reveal about the Father?
  2. What did Jesus mean by announcing God’s kingdom?
  3. What part of Jesus’ life or teaching calls for your response?

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, thank You for revealing Yourself in Your Son. Give me eyes to see the glory of Jesus, faith to receive His salvation, and grace to follow Him as Lord. Amen.
