Peter walked upon the water while his attention was fixed on Jesus. When he shifted his focus to the wind, fear overwhelmed the word that had called him forward.
The storm was real, but so was the command of Christ—and His word carried greater authority.
Faith begins with His word
Peter did not step out because he admired risk. He stepped out because Jesus said, ‘Come.’ Biblical faith responds to the voice of Christ, not to ambition or emotional excitement.
What you magnify will govern your response
The wind had been present from the beginning. What changed was Peter’s attention. Fear grows when circumstances become larger in our vision than the Lord who called us.
Cry out when you begin to sink
Peter’s prayer was short: ‘Lord, save me.’ Jesus immediately reached for him. Failure in the storm does not place you beyond the reach of Christ.
The storm should lead to worship
When Jesus entered the boat and the wind ceased, the disciples worshiped Him. The deepest lesson was not about water; it was the revelation of who Jesus is.
Put the teaching into practice
- Return your attention to the words and character of Jesus.
- Limit the voices that continually magnify fear.
- Ask what this storm is revealing about Christ.
Personal reflection
- What has captured my focus?
- Did Christ call me into this step?
- How can this season deepen my worship?
