There is a difference between knowing God’s will and knowing every step of the journey. God may give a destination while withholding the complete map.
He gives enough light for the next step and enough mystery to keep us dependent upon Him.
Abraham received a command before a route
God said, ‘Go… unto a land that I will shew thee.’ Abraham received a promise and an instruction to move. Further revelation came while he obeyed.
Jesus gives us Himself
Jesus did not give the disciples a complete career plan. He said, ‘Follow Me.’ The presence of the Guide is greater than possession of the map.
Revelation often comes while walking
Some instructions become clear only after obedience begins. Waiting for total certainty can become a spiritual excuse for avoiding today’s faithful step.
Knowing Him clarifies His will
Paul connected knowledge of God’s will with an increasing knowledge of God. The better we know His voice and character, the more confidently we can follow when the road is unfamiliar.
Put the teaching into practice
- Write down the last clear instruction God gave you.
- Take the next obedient step that is already within reach.
- Spend more time knowing the Guide than trying to predict the route.
Personal reflection
- Am I demanding a map when God has already given a command?
- What fear keeps me from taking the next step?
- How can I deepen my knowledge of Christ today?
