CANA INSTITUTEFORMATION & CALLINGSchool of Prayer

CANA INSTITUTE · HEBREWS 13:20–21

Formation before
assignment.

The God who calls you is the God who forms and equips you for His will.

LESSON PURPOSE

Before God works through you, He works in you.

God does not merely give believers assignments. He works within them, equips them, and prepares them to accomplish His will faithfully.

01

“Now the God of peace…”

The Source — The God of Peace

The prayer begins with God’s identity. Calling must begin in God—not ambition, pressure, competition, insecurity, or the desire to be recognized. When God is the source, we do not have to manufacture what only His grace can produce.

02

“…that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus…”

The Power — Resurrection Life

The God who calls us is the God who raised Jesus from the dead. Resurrection power means God can bring life into areas that appear unproductive, damaged, delayed, or finished. Our ability to fulfill His will does not depend solely upon natural strength.

03

“…that great shepherd of the sheep…”

The Relationship — The Great Shepherd

Jesus forms us as our Shepherd. He leads, feeds, protects, corrects, restores, and prepares us. Before carrying responsibility for others, we must learn to follow the Shepherd ourselves.

04

“…through the blood of the everlasting covenant…”

The Foundation — The Everlasting Covenant

Our confidence before God rests in the blood of Jesus—not personal perfection. His blood provides forgiveness, cleansing, access to God, and covenantal belonging. We serve from acceptance in Christ, not in an attempt to earn acceptance.

05

“Make you perfect in every good work…”

The Equipping — Made Complete

The word translated “perfect” communicates the idea of completing, restoring, preparing, and equipping. God develops the character, wisdom, strength, endurance, and capacity required to carry the assignment. Preparation is not separate from the calling; it is part of the calling.

06

“…to do his will…”

The Purpose — To Do His Will

The objective of spiritual formation is obedience to God. Power, ministry, influence, success, recognition, and manifestation are not the final goal. An impressive ministry outside God’s will cannot be considered genuine success.

07

“…working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight…”

The Inner Work — God Working Within Us

God works within us before He works through us. He confronts motives, heals wounds, establishes identity, develops character, teaches obedience, and produces spiritual maturity. Public ministry can never substitute for private formation.

THE FORMATION PROCESS

CHRIST→INNER FORMATION→EQUIPPING→OBEDIENCE→ASSIGNMENT→FAITHFUL FRUIT

PERSONAL ACTIVATION

Pray through Hebrews 13:20–21.

  1. What is God currently forming within you?
  2. What area of character requires surrender?
  3. What assignment is He preparing you to carry?
  4. What practical act of obedience must you take next?
