Persistent prayer.
“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”Luke 18:1–8
Jesus told the parable of the persistent widow to encourage His disciples to pray and not lose heart. He was not teaching that we must wear God down. He was showing that our righteous and compassionate God hears His people and will bring justice in His wisdom and timing.
Some prayers are answered quickly; others carry us through a long season of waiting. Persistence does not earn God’s attention or guarantee the exact answer we desire. It is a way of continuing to trust Him—to bring our burdens honestly before Him and remain faithful as we wait.
Psalm 88 reminds us that prayer can include cries from deep distress. We do not have to hide our pain from God. Like David, we can keep returning to Him morning, noon, and evening (Psalm 55:17).
PERSONAL REFLECTION
What burden do I need to keep bringing before God today? What does faithful obedience look like while I wait?
Prayer
Father, teach me to pray faithfully and not lose heart. When I am waiting, steady my faith. Help me to be honest before You, obedient in the present, and confident in Your wisdom and care. In Jesus’ name, amen.
