Let’s crown character in today’s culture.

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable … think about such things.”Philippians 4:8–9

Character has lost its crown in much of today’s culture. Talent is celebrated, influence is pursued, and success is displayed—but integrity, purity, and moral strength are often neglected. God is calling His children to crown character again.

Godly character is not merely the image we present publicly. It is the person we are when nobody is watching. It begins in the mind, takes root in the heart, and eventually becomes visible through our choices, words, relationships, and conduct.

CHARACTER BEGINS IN THE MIND

Our actions reveal what has been growing within us. Before sin becomes conduct, it is often entertained as a thought. Likewise, before godliness becomes a lifestyle, truth must first govern the mind.

We cannot consistently live above the condition of our thinking. When our minds remain fixed on Christ and His Word, His character begins to form within us.

WHATEVER IS TRUE

Truth is the foundation of godly character. A person of integrity refuses to build life upon deception, exaggeration, appearances, or hidden compromise. Yet Scripture commands us to speak the truth in love. Christian maturity brings truth and love together.

WHATEVER IS NOBLE

To be noble is to live honorably—to possess motives, manners, and morals worthy of respect. An honorable person is consistent. Their public confession agrees with their private conduct. Integrity means wholeness: our beliefs, words, and behavior agree.

WHATEVER IS RIGHT

Doing what is right means submitting our decisions to God’s standard rather than following popular opinion. Godly character treats people with dignity, kindness, fairness, and respect. What is culturally acceptable is not always spiritually right; God’s Word remains our standard.

WHATEVER IS PURE

Purity is moral and spiritual cleanliness. It concerns what we watch, imagine, desire, entertain, and practice. We must never allow the frequency of sin around us to make compromise appear normal. Purity protects our fellowship with God, our families, our witness, and the assignment entrusted to us.

WHATEVER IS LOVELY

Loveliness is the grace of Christ expressed through our relationships. It makes us peaceful, approachable, considerate, and kind. Godly character does not use truth as a weapon. It carries conviction with compassion and strength with gentleness.

WHATEVER IS ADMIRABLE

An admirable person leaves others strengthened rather than diminished. Their words build instead of destroy. Their conduct inspires trust, and their presence encourages people to pursue Christ more faithfully.

CHARACTER MUST BE CROWNED AGAIN

Character must first be crowned in our homes. Children learn integrity by watching the lives of their parents—not merely by hearing their instructions.

Character must also be crowned in the Church. Spiritual gifts can attract attention, but only godly character can faithfully carry the weight of influence. Power without character is dangerous, but power governed by the nature of Christ becomes a blessing.

Let us crown character again—not human perfection, but lives continually surrendered to Christ and transformed by the Holy Spirit.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Are my private life and public confession consistent? Is truth governing my thoughts and decisions? Have I tolerated anything that weakens my purity? Do my words communicate both truth and love? Does my conduct help others see the character of Christ?

Prayer

Father, examine my heart and renew my mind. Remove every form of dishonesty, compromise, impurity, and pride from my life. Teach me to love what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Form the character of Christ within me so that my private life and public witness will honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
