The Knowledge of the Lord

Knowing Him, being formed by Him, making Him known.

The knowledge of the Lord is more than information about God. Through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit brings us to know God, forms His character in us, and sends us to make Him known.

01

The knowledge of the Lord is revealed in Jesus

Isaiah’s vision begins with the promised King, the shoot from the stump of Jesse, upon whom the Spirit of the Lord rests. The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord under His righteous reign. Jesus is not merely a teacher who gives us facts about God; He is the Son who reveals the Father. To know God rightly, we look to Christ—His words, His works, His cross, and His resurrection.

02

The Spirit opens our understanding through the Word

Paul prayed that believers would receive wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God (Ephesians 1:17). The Spirit does not lead us away from Scripture; He illuminates the truth and leads us more deeply into Christ. We need more than quick answers about our circumstances. We need eyes to see who God is, what He has done, and what He is forming in us.

03

Knowing God must shape how we live

Paul connects knowing God’s will with walking in a manner worthy of the Lord, bearing fruit in good works, and growing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:9–10). Biblical knowledge is not a badge of spiritual status. It produces humility, obedience, love, holiness, and faithfulness. The question is not only, ‘What have I learned?’ but also, ‘What is this truth producing in me?’

04

The knowledge of the Lord transforms us

As we behold the glory of the Lord, we are changed into His image by the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18). God’s purpose is not merely to fill our minds with concepts, but to form the life of Christ in His people. This formation reaches our speech, choices, relationships, service, and private conduct.

05

We know Christ through His cross and resurrection

Paul counted everything as loss compared with the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. He longed to know Him and the power of His resurrection, sharing in the pattern of Christ’s suffering (Philippians 3:8–10). Knowing Christ does not mean avoiding every hardship. It means belonging to Him in every season: trusting His power, following His way, and remaining faithful when obedience is costly.

06

The knowledge of the Lord sends us to others

Isaiah’s vision reaches beyond one person or congregation: the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord. The Church is called to proclaim Christ, make disciples, and carry the Gospel to the nations. Apostolic ministry receives the Gospel, remains faithful to Scripture, depends on the Holy Spirit, and bears witness to Jesus. We are not sent to make our names great; we are sent to make Christ known.

THE FORMATION PATH
